Exciting news under the cut

I also accidentally locked myself in the mentor office and started a relatively strict diet today. But in light of the developments under the cut, I'm completely fine with that.

Now, if you need me, I'll be celebrating at Crown & Anchor.

The Final Stretch

Nice
Just waiting on one last address and phone number of a former employer (courtesy my lovely mother, who is going to send it to me tomorrow morning) and then I can go get this darned thing notarized and then spend oodles of money to turn it in. Fun times.

In other news, does one have to have actually read the Texas Constitution in order to support it? Because from what I understand, that's one beast of a document and there's no way that's happening in the next few days. But I do support Texas' having a constitution, so I just answered yes. I don't know that I support community property, but because I also wasn't sure whether that was (a) actually in the constitution and (b) enough to negate my support of the constitution as a whole, I kept it yes. And back when I worked for the federal government, I swore to protect the constitution in my oath, so I'm pretty certain that protecting the constitution includes supporting it, so that one was a no-brainer. And, you know, I'm kinda fond of those little amendments and Article III and stuff.

In the end, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. But check back in after I've paid for this stuff because I may change my tune.

Die, declaration, die!

So I'm chugging along on my declaration, I have my fingerprint appointment, and I even might be able to pay for the thing. But then I hit a snag called "employment history." The problem is four jobs. Four. Three childcare jobs and a substitute teaching gig.

Problem 1. When I was a freshman in college, I wanted a few extra bucks but the flexibility to work when I felt like it, which wasn't often. So I was a substitute counselor for the YMCA's after school child care program. Basically, people called me if they would be missing work, and I went to their campus and filled in for them. I met my "supervisor" once (during training), could not remember her name if my life depended on it, and cannot remember anything about my time there at all aside from one time when two bully kids used racial slurs and the parents seemed amused when I informed them about why their kids were in trouble and I was so appalled I refused to fill in at that campus ever again. So... what do I put in the supervisor blank? The YMCA is still in business. But no one that works there currently has any idea who I am, and because I can't remember my supervisor's name, I have no hope of tracking her down. *tears out hair*

Problem 2. When I was a sophomore in college, I again found myself in the after school child care business. This time through the YWCA as a head counselor and with my very own campus. Only... I worked for a whopping three months if that, and again I have no clue who my supervisor was. Dates are vague. I remember the elementary school had a funny smell to it and a shitty playground. That's about it. So again... what the hell do I put?

Problem 3. After I got sick of the funny smell, I moved from after school care to full-on corporate owned daycare. I had infants, I had toddlers, I had school-age kids. I basically went where they needed me because nothing was more important than efficiently placing the teachers so as to lose the least amount of money in paying us. This time I remember my supervisor's name, and a few calls to corporate headquarters got me exact dates. However, supervisor no longer works there, and the daycare sucked so much that none of the current people there worked there in my day. They were all smart like me and eventually quit. Why, oh why, did I have to choose high-turnover fields?!

Problem 4. Apparently I get along well with kids, because in the year before I came to law school, I was a substitute teacher. If I had a supervisor with the district, I met him or her once and that was the day I went to fill out my paperwork. I suppose I could list a principal from a school, but which school? All schools? Hell, I don't even remember all of the ones I taught at. Just one that might remember me? How do I pick which one? Will it matter?

*sobs* Will someone please fill out my declaration for me? *sniff* Pretty please?

Well, I Declare!

Thanks
So I'm filling out (finally) my Declaration of Intent to Study Law, and 6 of the 13 jobs I have to list on my declaration took place in the University of Texas System. And exact dates are available on UT Direct. This makes for a very very happy Ruth. Especially since I just had to call and leave messages to three former employers because I don't remember when I worked there or who my supervisor was. Those jobs obviously made a huge impression on me.

By the way, this shit is due on the 30th. An email back in December would have been nice. An email at all would have been nice. Of course, to have done this as a 1L like I was supposed to would have been even nicer, but c'est la vie or something.
