In other news... Ruth fails the bar exam.

Thank you, J.K. Rowling. Would it have killed you to push that date back two weeks?

*sobs*

EDIT: On second thought, Bar Bri should be over with by then, so I can easily take the night off, read it in one go, and get back to it. It can be done. It can be done.

Um didn't you just have a post about picking up the last HP at midnite and being done with it at 9AM?

I predict a Study break for Ruthie. . .

Before the release date, I'd suspected a June release for the book. And I felt no remorse at my plans to take a night off for the book a month before the bar exam. But days before the bar exam? Yeah, it's a little scarier. It's pretty much the worst possible release date. Actually, take out the words "pretty much," and the statement becomes more accurate.

But there is no way I can wait until after the exam to read it. I just don't have that kind of discipline.

You should be fine if you really do bust your ass ahead of time. Because of the baby situation, that's what I did. I didn't really do any studying on the Sunday or Monday before the exam began Tuesday and I did OK. There's definitely time to spare if you pace yourself.

I feel your pain
3L at Notre Dame here. I feel your pain. I've blogged about this a lot today... see the two links below. The second one quotes you extensively, both this post and a post that you (I think it's you! correct me if I'm wrong) wrote two years ago, anticipating this very problem, which I found via Google. Anyway, here are the links:

http://www.brendanloy.com/2007/02/more-potter-bar-exam-banter.html

As I say on my blog, I honestly think that taking a break from studying, and reading the book, is the only viable solution. Otherwise, it's almost inevitable that you will find out how the book ends... someone WILL spoil it, somehow, somewhere. Especially if Harry dies, because if so, that will be an absolutely huge cultural event. The news will be EVERYWHERE; it will be almost impossible to avoid. And even if you cut yourself from all human contact, the Internet, etc., from July 21 until taking the bar... you still have to take the bar, at which point you run a very serious risk of overhearing conversations that you don't want to overhear, and learning That Which Must Not Be Learned. The worry and distraction of it all would, I think, be much more damaging to your (and my) bar-exam hopes than just taking half a day and reading the damn book.

So in other words, I don't think there's any shame in being "undisciplined" and reading the book. I actually think that is the rational course of action. :)

I am stressing about this too. I took the February bar in Texas and I don't know how I will study for July if I don't pass.
